Black Eyes and Fat Lips

Mr. Munro went fishing this weekend with a friend. He dropped a stainless steel bucket overboard, and when he jumped into the water to retrieve it, the boat moved. He ended up with a fat lip and several scrapes and bruises. He rang me most perturbed because it was interfering with his beer drinking. Men!

I still have a black eye and numerous bruises from falling off my bike last week. I tell you, people are going to start talking about us and the things that go on in the privacy of the Munro home. Has anyone else had a black eye? I want to know how long I’m going to need to walk around looking like this. At least I’m colorful…

We went for a quick walk tonight with the dog. It was later than normal and everyone had turned on their Christmas lights. It was very pretty. My favorites are the colored lights that look like icicles. We never put up lights but it’s fun going for a walk this time of the year to indulge the inner child.

It’s my birthday tomorrow. It’s actually on 8th December but because we’re 13 hours ahead in NZ my birthday is also on the 7th if you live in the US. Confused? LOL I’m off to the zoo to see the tigers and do some research for my next Middlemarch Mates book. I’m looking forward to seeing the new tiger cubs. Auckland has a great zoo and I always enjoy my visits. I’m meeting hubby later in the day and we’re going out for dinner. No cooking or housework for a day. It sounds like a good idea to me.

Do you put up Christmas lights? And if so, what sort? Has anyone else been accident prone during the last week?

Have a wonderful birthday tomorrow, Shelley. My local zoo has lion cubs. They’re adorable. My favorite, though, are the penguins.

Happy birthday, Shelley–no matter what time zone you’re in.

And try to stop hurting yourselves. Your neighbors must be talking by now. lol.

    Ref: lights
I’m still in the process of getting my new house situated so I’ll be lucky if I even decorate this year. If som it will be the first time in 33 years. Dang it! I’ll have to put up something. I can’t let down tradition.

    Birthday hug! Enjoy your day!

Happy Birthday! I am currently in birthday mode as well, since 1 daughter and 3 grandchildren all have birthdays within 1 month–right in the middle of the holidays!
I usually like to do a little decorating, but right now I have multitudes of things in my house that are taking up space and have NOTHING to do with Christmas. Don’t know if I can even find my decorations. Never really do lights though.
As far as clumsiness, my only granddaughter has made a career of doing various amounts of damage to herself. She is 7 1/2 months pregnant, and the last time she dropped something (no damage this time except to the piece of cake!) I told her that she better be careful or she might start dropping the baby! She was of course very irate that I could even think such a thing, and since she has cared for children since she was very young, it was only a joking comment!

Happy Birthday! Have a good one.

Then Happy bday today, Shelley. Sounds like a wonderful day for you.

Normally, I’m just a klutz, which I think is due to poor depth perception. So I always have bruises, scrapes, sore spot. Though i haven’t been accident prone as much lately, Oddly enough, these past two weeks, i’ve had poison sumac on my inner thigh, which has spread to my other inner thigh. I haven’t been outside much, so I can’t think how I got it, except that my dog likes to rub against me when I’m sitting down at my computer. It grows in our yard where she likes to lie down.

So I’ve been having to sit with shorts on in this cold weather, hoping it’ll dry out, ’cause it itches like crazy when I have pants on.

P.S. As for you and your hubby (poor y’all), you could just tell people you got carried away having a little rough sex. As for me with my poison sumac, I told my husband that since it spread to my other thigh due to keeping my legs closed, I was just going to have to keep them open so as not to spread more!

On a less raunchy note, I love riding my bike too. In fact, when my bday comes in June I want a new one. The one I have is falling apart so much I can’t ride it. Not that I want to when it’s cold anyway. Julie

    Happy Birthday.

Yep, I totally deck out halls. Colored and White LEDs. I love this time of year, except for the snow.

  8. Leah Braemel

    Happy Birthday, Shelley!

In the Braemel household, accidents seem to be contagious. It’ll start off with one person dropping a glass, then someone else will trip or do something and it’ll just balloon from there. Hopefully you two have gotten your accidents out of your system.

You poor guys. I can just see people whispering to each other when they see you ( – :
How funny in a totally not funny way.

    Happy Birthday!

    Happy birthday, my friend!!

No advice on the bruises; I tend to strain and pull muscles and ligaments and stuff like that. I wish I bruised instead, believe me!

  11. JK Coi

Shh. This is just between us *snort* but my husband fell off a ladder last year and needed stitches in his very fine ass :)

I’ve had a black eye, but just a little one, and it went away in a few days.

  12. David Maynard

Have a very Happy Birthday Shelley and many many more.
I’ve had a few black eyes, once both of them at the same time. I walked around looking like a racoon for about two weeks. In addition to the black eyes my nose had been broken. The culprit: loose ladder rung. Don’t keep old wooden ladders. NZ, I flew through there and stayed at Christ Church. You folks have the best tasting milk in the world and have friendly people. I would not mind living there at all even if it is in a different time zone. Crossing the international date line can be confusing at times. LOL
Christmas decorations, well the normal I guess. The lighted deer in the front lawn, lights on the gutters, various lights in the elms, evergreens, apple, locust, and oak trees. All are led’s now with a few mini incandescents still hanging around.

  13. Paz

Oh, my! You and hubby now make a matching pair. I hope you both heal quickly.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    Paz XOXO

P.S. I live in an apartment, so don’t put up any lights but we decorate the front door (well, I don’t, my sister does.)

  14. Cathy M

Have a wonderful birthday Shelley. When my boys were younger, we used to put up lights on the roof and trees. These days, it’s just inside decorations, no more climbing ladders for the dh and I.

  15. Karin

I hope you have a wonderful birthday, Shelley!

All kinds of Christmas lights get put at my house. We have icicle lights that hang from the edges of the roof. My dad has created his own trees of Christmas lights by wrapping strands of lights around tomato cages he flips upside down. We also have three lighted reindeer, a few lighted snowflakes, and a bunch of lighted candy canes along the sidewalk.

  16. Estella

    Happy Birthday!!
We put up colored mini lights in the Maple trees in front of our house, and around the edge of our covered back deck.
I have had a black eye a couple of times. It takes about a week for it to fade to yellow, and several days after that to go completely away.

  17. Fedora

Happy, happy birthday, Shelley! So sorry to hear about the accidents–I do tend to get all sorts of scraps, cuts, and bruises, but have managed to avoid a black eye so far. As for lights, we only put them on our tree, and for some reason, only the strand on the bottom half lights up. They both worked before we put them on the tree… *sigh*

  18. Lindsey Ekland

Happy Birthday. No decorations so admire the lights on other people’s houses. Next year maybe a tree and wreath on the door.

  19. Christina Phillips

    Happy Birthday, Shelley!!

Sorry to hear of Mr Munro’s accident, but lol on interfering with his beer drinking!

As for lights, we put tiny white lights on our tree. We don’t decorate the outside of the house, but i love seeing other people’s lighting displays. I like the icicle lights too.

  20. Shelley Munro

Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only accident prone person out there!!

I’ve had a lovely day. I’m off to relax in front of the TV now.

  21. Dani

My son had a black eye around this time last year (closer to Christmas though) and his lasted for about a month, but then again it went from just above his eye to about an inch below it, so it was good sized. I’m sure that the closer you get to the new year the less color you’ll see.

I love Christmas lights, but don’t get to put them up on the house because we live out in the country with hardly any neighbors to see them. I get around this by keeping the tree lights on all the time, so I can be happy.

  22. Shelley Munro

LOL – Dani. My black eye is that big – both above and below. I think it looks a bit better this week. The yellow isn’t quite as vibrant.

Ah, that’s tough. One of the neat things about living in the town is seeing everyone’s Christmas lights.

  23. Wylie Kinson

    Happy Birthday to you,
    happy birthday to you,
    happy birthday dear Shelley,
    happy birthday to you!!

Just be glad you can’t actually HEAR me singing. It would make your toes curl and quite possibly, your other eye black…
