Where Do I Take My Date?

Thursday Thirteen

I picked up a fun book during my last visit to the library. It’s called Guide to Great Dates
by Paul Joannides and Toni Johnson and give details of places to go, an estimate of cost, the things you need to do to prepare ahead of time plus phone numbers and internet resources. I’ve chosen some of my favorites to include in my Thursday Thirteen this week.

Thirteen Places to Take a Date

1. Star Gazing – visit the local observatory and learn about the stars.
2. Never on a Sundae – go to a place that makes ice cream sundaes.
3. Making waves – go to the beach, watch the sun set and snuggle on a blanket.
4. Corn Maze Challenge – visit a farm with a maze and have fun getting lost.
5. Go fly a kite – build a kite together then go and fly it.
6. Renaissance Faire – hire costumes and visit a renaissance fair.
7. Go to a rodeo – he haw! Ride ‘em cowboy!
8. Visit a fortune teller or psychic – have your fortune read.
9. Hot Air Balloon Festival – get up early and watch all the balloons take off.
10. A drive-in movie – find a drive-in movie theatre.
11. The zoo – visit the zoo. Some zoos have special evenings or behind-the-scenes tours.
12. Play pool – go to a pool hall.
13. Factory tour – visit a jelly bean factory, a beer factory, a chocolate factory etc

And speaking of dating – one of the women who works with my sister has a father who has just entered a home for older people. She said to him jokingly that he’d be able to find a girlfriend. Her father said in a testy voice, “Have you seen the women in here?” I guess he won’t be going on a date anytime soon!

Do check out Guide to Great Dates because my list is a very brief summary of the ideas and details in this fun book.

What are some of your favorite places to go on a date?

  1. Ms Menozzi

Ha! I went to a pool hall with my (long-since) ex-husband when we were first dating.

He didn’t react well when I beat him. I should have paid attention to that. Actually, the fact that he didn’t react well when I beat him at miniature golf should have been a sign, too. LOL!

I’m not a competitive person, but I used to play those two games well. What can I say? ;)

    Happy TT!
    Ciao!

  2. Nessa

    That’s a fun list.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate and a Happy Thursday just to celebrate.Thursday Thirteen

  3. Adelle Laudan

If only men did do things like that on a date. lol Fun list. Happy T13!

  4. Jaime

We love to visit the Botanical Gardens in the spring. It’s beautiful as the flowers are just coming into bloom. ;) But usually, we have dinner and go see a movie. Boring, but effective!

  5. Linda Henderson

Happy Thanksgiving to all the USA readers and authors. I’ve been divorced twice so I don’t have any dating tips. Probably should have read a book on dating before all that.

  6. Mary Quast

Hmmm… I might have to check out that book. Sounds like I might get some good stuff out of it for my blog.

    Happy TT and Turkey Day!

    Mine’s at http://maryquast.blogspot.com/

  7. Heather

1, 2, and 9 would definitely get my vote. Enjot your weekend!

  8. A. Catherine Noon

I love this list. I like ideas of things to do that aren’t in front of the telly or the movie screen, because it means that you actually interact. We like to go on weekend getaways, within four hours’ drive of the house, and under $150. That way it’s affordable and yet a mini vacation. Not something to do every weekend, by any means, but nice for a once-in-a-while.

  9. Julia Smith

“Have you seen the women in here?” – LOL!!

  10. Amy W.

Good ideas! Emma wants to go star gazing. Sadly we’ve had overcast for two weeks now. We didn’t even get to see the meteor shower because of the clouds. I want to see the sun or stars again!!!
    Hugs from Turkey land!

  11. Shelley Munro

Ms Menozzi – I had to laugh at your comment. In my marriage, it’s me that ends up getting grumpy. Hubby is very good at both pool and golf. I’ve given up on golf, calling it a stoopid game.

  12. Shelley Munro

Nessa – no, it’s an ordinary day down here in NZ. With so many online friends in the US, it feels as if I celebrate with you.

Adelle – they sound like fun, don’t they. From memory hubby took me to a party for our first date.

  13. Shelley Munro

Jaime – hubby and I go to our local Botanic garden quite often and end our visit with a coffee at their cafe. It’s always nice, but we don’t go as often now because we don’t have our little dog any more.

  14. Shelley Munro

Hugs, Linda. Why don’t you collect together some of your friends or family and go on a “date” to one of the fun places you wished you’d visited? That would be a fun date.

  15. Shelley Munro

Mary – it really is an interesting book.

Heather – I LOVE hot air ballooning and have been lucky enough to go aloft a couple of times. It’s a fun way to see the countryside.

  16. Shelley Munro

A Catherine – yes, too many things these days don’t involve interaction. I thought these dates sounded like fun.

Julia – I know. It cracked me up too.

  17. Shelley Munro

Amy – stargazing is fun. I like to go for walks when it’s dark. It’s safe where we live and even though we’re in town, we get to see lots of stars. I hope the skies clear for you!

  18. Amy Ruttan

Ooh my favorite place is the Drive In movie. When me and the DH were dating I was living with my parents and it was the only place we could go for some privacy.

Actually after three kids it still IS!!!

  19. Susan Helene Gottfried

Ice skating. The Tour Manager and I did this on our second date. Nothing like holding up a man who weighs 100 pounds more than you (and is a foot and a half taller) if you want to know if it’s true love or not.

  20. sdennard

I’ve got 6 outta 13… Hmmm. I guess I’ll be pushin’ the hubby to get through the other 7! ;)

  21. Alice Audrey

    These are all great ideas.

  22. Irishcoda

That was a fun list, enjoyed it! You named nearly all my favorite places for dates. The only ones I can think to add:

    bowling
lawn concert (another opportunity to enjoy outdoors and a snuggle)
    apple/blueberry/cranberry festival

  23. Cheri Oggy

On our first date my husband and I went to an amusement park; we had loads of fun and acted like kids (we were 27 & 34 at the time).

  24. Elise Logan

I love the zoo, so I always think that’s a great place to go. Nice choices.

  25. Nikki Memmott

That sounds like a great book! I love going to the beach, especially on dates. Thank you for sharing!
