Seduced by a Magazine

Today I visited Newmarket (an upmarket shopping area not far from the inner city) and then stopped at Sylvia Park, one of the local malls. I was peering out the window on the way there and I saw it…

An ad for a magazine. I noticed one of the headlines on the cover and had to have a copy of my own. I was seduced. The story title?

2 Weeks to a Flat, Sexy Stomach.

I tell you, a little voice inside my head screamed, “Buy me!” so like the good consumer I am, I purchased a copy of New Zealand Women’s Health. I now have all the details at my fingertips: the quick, toning moves, the no-fail rules of flat abs and 12 fat-blasting foods.

Along with the flat, sexy stomach article there are ones on making love last, a guide to a stress-free life and motivational secrets for real women to get and stay fit. I tell you…I’m set for the holiday season.

Do you purchase or read magazines? If so, do you have any favorites?

I love Bicycling Magazine. I’m already stoked for the spring riding season, and winter just started yesterday!

  2. Maria Zannini

One of my favorites is called Taste Of Home. Lots of good home-cooking recipes. We also take Smithsonian and read it cover to cover. Every article is fascinating.

    Hi Shelley :)
    I haven’t bought a magazine in years.
    The reasons?
    1) Photoshopping of pictures so none are real.
    2) I get the articles and news online.
    :)
    Merry Christmas!

Susan – I really enjoy cycling. It’s funny because I never owned a bike as a kid and rolled my eyes terribly when hubby suggested we get bikes. I ride mine way more than hubby and have gone through a set of tires. I don’t think hubby has ridden his bike for months.

It’s the longest day of the year here. I’m definitely not thinking of winter.

Maria – we used to subscribe to a couple of similar magazines with recipes and home hints. These days I tend to watch the Living channel and the Food channel for that sort of thing.

The Smithsonian is one magazine I would love. It’s really expensive down here. I must check the library to see if they stock it.

RK – good point. They’re expensive too. I have to say though that sometimes it’s good to get away from the computer. Sometimes I think I spend my life doing stuff on the computer.

I use to love magazines but I now work in a factory that makes them and I can’t hardly stand to look at them. I still buy Readers Digest and Romantic Times but that’s all.

Sherry – I can understand that. My brother-in-law gets the Readers Digest. He really likes it.

I do enjoy magazines. I get Better Homes and Gardens, Redbook, Family Circle, and Woman’s Day. I like the recipes and the health articles. Also enjoy the decorating themes.
