I’ve been thinking about fairy tales recently, mainly because I have Tia Nevitt’s The Sevenfold Spell sitting on my hard drive, ready for me to read. The only thing that’s holding back my reading pleasure is my current WIP. I’m determined to finish that sucker by next week. Anyhow, back to fairy tales. For my TT this week I thought I’d give you a list of some of my favorite fairy tales.

Here’s the blurb: Have you ever wondered what happens to the other people in the fairy tale?
Things look grim for Talia and her mother. By royal proclamation, the constables and those annoying “good” fairies have taken away their livelihood by confiscating their spinning wheel. Something to do with a curse on the princess, they said.

Without the promise of an income from spinning, Talia’s prospects for marriage disappear, and she and her mother face destitution. Past caring about breaking an arbitrary and cruel law, rebellious Talia determines to build a new spinning wheel, the only one in the nation—which plays right into the evil fairy’s diabolical plan. Talia discovers that finding a happy ending requires sacrifice. But is it a sacrifice she’s willing to make?

You certainly bring up an interesting point – what *does* happen to the other people in the fairy tale? Sounds like an intriguing angle for a story!

I’ve watched my fair share of fairy tales having had 4 kids. I think I enjoyed this one the most.

Nice way to work in Seven Fold Spell.
I’ve always liked Cinderella best. And I like the “sweet” fairy tales, not the darker bloodier originals.

I love fairy tales, though I have to admit, I much prefer the Disney versions to the classics!

A good list. Mulan and The Little Mermaid rate among my top fave fairy tales. Whether I like modern retellings or not depends on the writer and premise. For example, I absolutely LOVE Ever After. The Nevitt book sounds intriguing!
Good list. I like the old-school fairy tales. The Swan King is a fave.
Kimberley – I often wonder what happens to the secondary characters and the “rejects”. Tia has used a great concept.
Adelle – I’ll have to check out Mulan. I don’t think I’ve seen it.
Maddy – I like our Disney versions much better. Some of the original tales are very ghoulish.
Heather – I like Ever After too. :grin:

I have always love Andrew Lang’s Fairy Tale collections. The Blue Fairy Tale Book is my fav.

Fairy Tales are not just for children. They are wonderful. Snow White & Cinderella are 2 of my favourites.
