Celebrity Chefs

Thursday Thirteen

I enjoy cooking and watching the Food Channel. Today I’m giving you a list of my favorite ones.

Thirteen Celebrity Chefs

1. Rick Stein – I like his passion for food and especially enjoy his shows outside of England. His dog Chalky was so cute. I was sad when he died.

2. Rachel Allen – she does good no-nonsense food. Her accent is very cute.

3. Jamie Oliver – I admire his passion for food and his school lunch crusade.

4. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall – I like all his River Cottage shows and especially enjoy the snippets of village life and the different customs. He does cook a few weird things though. I can do without cow stomachs. I suspect the cows would prefer to keep them too.

5. Annabel Langbein – is a New Zealand chef currently showing on our screens in the show, The Free Range Cook. She lives in Wanaka in the South Island and the scenery shown in the series is absolutely stunning. I believe the series has sold to many overseas countries so it might be on a TV near you in your future. Here’s the link to her website.

6. Gordon Ramsay – Famous for his temper and F-bombs.

7. Ainsley Harriet. I like both his cooking shows and Ready, Steady, Cook where he hosts guests and other chefs. He’s such a showman with his big, beaming smile and sense of humor.

8. Jo Seagar – Jo is a New Zealand chef. She used to live near us, but moved down to Oxford in the South Island. I hope to get my cookbook autographed when I visit Oxford in December. Here’s the link to her website.

9. James Martin – I always enjoy Saturday Kitchen and the guest chefs making omelettes as fast as they can.

10. Kylie Kwong – I enjoy Asian influences in my food.

11. Giada De Laurentiis – Giada is one of the few American chefs I will watch. Her smile is wider than…well, almost anything and her recipes are delicious. I especially enjoy her Italian recipes.

12. Ina Garten – the Barefoot Contessa.

13. Nigella Lawson – She’s my all-time favorite. Several of the others have mannerisms that irritate me but not Nigella. Her verbal descriptions of the ingredients and final product are sheer poetry that the writer in me really admires. Her recipes are easy to make and delicious too. I also like the way she enjoys food. Her midnight snacks at the end of each show make me chuckle.

Do you have a favorite celebrity chef?

  1. Heather

I’ve never been one for the food network, though it was one of Mom’s favorite channels, so only recognize a few of those names. If I had to chose a favorite chef, I’d probably go with Emeril Legasse, only because I’ve eaten at one of his restaurants (excellent!) and he’s a regular guest on “Good Morning, America.”

  2. Savannah Chase

I only know a few of these. Will have to check out the rest… I keep watching more and more of the Food Network and keep discovering new one’s.

  3. Shelley Munro

Heather, I think Emeril has a show on our food channel down here. I’ve watched him a couple of times, but I tend to like the English/Aust/NZ chefs best because the measurements are easy. I don’t have to go to the Internet and convert.

  4. Shelley Munro

Savannah – both hubby and I enjoy watching the food channel. We both enjoy cooking. It relaxes us, although it’s a problem when it comes to bottom spread.

  5. Alice Audrey

Until I went to visit my mother in law this summer I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a celebrity cook.

  6. Danielle

I love Ina Garten, these are all great chefs, but Gordon Ramsey and his F bombs…gotta love it!! lol!! Great list!

  7. Stephanie Bennett / Adkins

Don’t forget Tyler Florence! He is so dreamy. *sigh* Great list, Shelley! Happy Thursday!

  8. Mary Kirkland

I used to watch channel 10 when we didn’t have cable and Yan Can Cook was a show that used to be on and he is so funny and I love asian food.

  9. Julia Smith

My gram used to watch ‘the cooks’ as she called them, every Saturday on PBS. So I love catching Lidia Bastianich (definitely my fave!), Todd English and Jacques Pepin – it brings my gram back into the room with me, for sure. But I love watching these cooks work, even besides the gram connection.

  10. Maria D.

I do love celebrity chefs but haven’t watched them much lately…think I got burned out.

I do like Paula Dean and Nigela Lawson though because you can tell they really do like their food.

  11. Maddy Barone

I don’t have a fave celebrity chef. MY cooking comes out of a can or box. But Nigella sounds like she would be fun!

  12. Jen

I love to watch Gordon Ramsay.. mostly the Kitchen Nightmares where he’s actually nice to people. But I will sometimes watch him on Hell’s Kitchen, especially when I need a chuckle.

I haven’t heard of most of these chefs so this is a great list for me. I’m going to forward to my foodie husband!

Giada’s Family Dinners book has an awesome recipe for steak and pasta. It’s one of our favs! :)

    Have a great evening!

  13. nessa

You can tell Nigella Lawson loves food with an all encompassing and yet comforting passion.

  14. Comedy Plus

When we had television my hubby loved the food network. Mainly what he watched. He’s the chef at our house.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  15. Debby

I do not know of too many. I do enjoy watching Emeril. I also like to watch the travel channel when they do spots of diners. They often include some cooking recipes and advice.

  16. Darla M Sands

I like Alton Brown and his scientific take toward food on “Good Eats”. I don’t always follow his recipes but then I’m not terribly aspiring in the kitchen. I’d rather be writing. :)

  17. {S.T.U.F.F.}

Giada & Nigella are my two of my favs, too!

…I’m off to cook up some magic

  18. Shelley Munro

Stephanie – ah, Tyler. He hasn’t been on recently but I have seen his show.

Mary – Yan Can Cook used to crack me up whenever he chopped things. Talk about flying meat cleavers.

  19. Shelley Munro

Julia – Lidia is showing on our screens at present but I haven’t watched her much. I’ve been hiding in the writing cave recently. The other two aren’t familiar to me.

  20. Shelley Munro

Paige – Alton is familiar but not the other two.

Maria – I don’t know Paula, but Nigella is definitely my all-time favorite. I want to be Nigella when I grow up.

  21. Shelley Munro

    Maddy! Tsk-tsk

Jen – I love pasta. I think it’s one of my favorite meals. You can do so many things with it.

  22. Jennifer Leeland

OMG! You’ve got totally different celeb chefs there! Gordon Ramsey finally got me. I’d always thought I wouldn’t like him, but I do.
    I love Alton Brown.
