Masks in a Chinese craft shop
Since I’m off on a mini holiday and leaving before the birds even think about chirping tomorrow morning, I thought I’d give you a virtual tour through China during the next four days. I hope to pop in and chat during the day, so I’m going to leave you with a question.
If you could pick any mask to wear what would it be? Something elegant, something silly or something else?
My husband would probably pick a snorkel mask since he loves snorkeling. I have trouble getting him out of the water when we’re on holiday! I’d pick a half mask–one that would be perfect for a Regency masquerade ball. A mask to conceal yet seduce…

Nope, not China this time, Ciara. We’re off to Wellington. Actually I’m there now, heading for the central city. The weather is gorgeous! I hope it stays that way for the cruise back up to Auckland.
They have similiar masks in Korea and I have some souvenirs. If I had to WEAR one, I think I’d snag a fun, festive one from New Orleans.
I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans. The carnival sounds crazy good fun.
Choosing a mask would depend on the purpose: seduction, crime, or simple concealment to ensure anonymity during festivals. I’ve always thought the elaborate ones in the masked balls in Europe somewhat cumbersome.
A good liar, or poker player, wears many masks, and the same goes for supervisors/bosses etc.
On that basis, I guess I prefer the one I grew up in.

I would probably go with a half-mask, one that would make it a bit easy to breath but also free my lips so people could see me smiling or frowning. But with my eyes deep behind the half-mask, it would still leave a fair amount of mystery to me.
