A Visit to Petrified Forest

One of the things I enjoy about visiting National Parks in the US is their diversity. Each is very different.

Petrified Forest is in the Painted Desert, Arizona. The public are able to wander through a landscape full of large petrified logs and tree stumps. Scientists have discovered lots of different plant and animal fossils dating back to around 200 million years ago. I was blown away by the logs and enjoyed exploring the landscape.

My mother loved the Petrified Forest. My favorite National Park is the Padre Island National Seashore! I want to visit Yosemite one day. Thanks for the photos!

I haven’t heard of the Padre Island NP – will consult my book.

Yosemite is gorgeous. I’ve been lucky enough to visit a couple of times, but at the height of summer it’s very busy!

That is so cool. Petrified woods is fascinating, if not, er, heavy and hard.

They had problems with people stealing it – before they turned it into a National Park.

Have never been to Arizona, but friends and I did visit the petrified forest outside Rapid City, SD when we were there years ago. It was pretty cool seeing these massive “stone” tree trunks.

They really are amazing. I don’t think we have anything like this in NZ.

Oh wow, this place looks amazing..

It was a fun visit and it wasn’t too crowded, which is always a plus.

I don’t have a favorite. Each one is so unique.

All I know is they’re one of my favorite places to visit.

I’ve visited that Muir Woods in California, and it was very cool. I’ve never been to a petrified forest.

200 million years! Wow, I feel like such a teeny, tiny speck in time :-) So much has been going on before and will go on long after I bid this world adieu.

I actually have a large piece of petrified wood from the petrified forest that my mom got from her parents and I now have after she passed away.

The Great Smokey Mountains in the Southern United States is my favorite…..the fall season will be beautiful.

      Hi Liz,

I haven’t visited the Great Smokey Mountains before, but I’ve heard they’re beautiful.
