Arc de Triomf – Entry to the World Expo

Arc De Triomf Barcelona

This magnificent arch is the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona. It was designed by Josep Vilaseca to celebrate the 1888 World Expo. The arch was the entrance to the exposition, and it’s built of red bricks.

I liked all the detailed carvings, and this one below is my favorite. I couldn’t find anything in my guidebook, but I call him Batman.

A lot of travelers enjoy visiting museums, and I’ve seen a fair share since my first childhood visit to the Auckland War Memorial museum. I confess to a low boredom threshold when it comes to museums, and I pick my visits carefully. An hour is usually enough for me, and luckily my husband and I mesh when it comes to sightseeing in museums.

Are you a fan of museums? Do you have any favorites, and what types of exhibits do you favor?

I DO like Museums. Actually, I think the Holocaust museum in DC is done exceptionally well.

I must have a short attention span or something, although I’m looking forward to visiting the Victoria & Albert museum when we go to London later this year. I particularly want to see the costumes they have.

I love museums. My favorite of all time is the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. A close second is the Museum of Science and Industry also in Chicago.

But I also love architecture–especially details like in your pictures above.

Maria, I enjoy Natural History Museum – the one in London is very cool.

I like old buildings too. For my Thursday Thirteen tomorrow I’m doing a post on Gaudi with photos. You might like that one. His designs are crazy!!

Love the red brick and carvings on this arch. I like museums and have been to several in DC. I’ve also been to both the Field Museum and Art Institute of Chicago, the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and a couple local historical museums.

I visited the Louvre many years ago. I remember so clearly how small the Mona Lisa is and the little curtain they drew across it when some idiot took a flash photo.

I also liked the Venus de Milo. Very cool!

I do like museums. The one I had the most fun at was the Natural History Museum here in Las Vegas. There were some dinosaur skeletons and I thought that was pretty neat. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
