W is for Waiheke Island

W

Waiheke is one of the islands in the Hauraki Gulf and is a 35 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Waiheke is a great place to visit during a weekend or for a day trip. You can visit vineyards, check out the different arts and crafts available, go swimming or exploring, eat the local produce or dine at one of the many outstanding restaurants.

Here are a few photos of the island:

Onetangi Beach is the main beach.

Vineyards and Olive Trees

There are lots of vineyards and olive trees.

Waiheke is very popular during the summer when the population explodes with holiday makers.

What is your favorite place to visit for a daytrip or for a weekend?

I adore exploring pretty much anywhere. One of my favorite places is Galena, Illinois, USA, which is only a couple hours’ drive from Chicago. it has shops, restaurants, and is nestled in a moraine valley near the Mississippi River so there’s some really cool hills to climb (Chicago’s very flat).

Sounds lovely, with exercise and shopping and nice scenery. :)

Those pictures are beautiful. I don’t travel, so I don’t have a place that I like to visit. If I did, it would have very few people, great food, and those gorgeous views. :)

Waiheke is a pretty island and the perfect place to spend some time away from routine.

That would be quite the view to have when you went to work in the vineyards! My view from work…not so spectacular. lol

You’d forever want to run outside and play with a view like that. I get to see the garden while I work. I like that.

Hubby and I went over for the day and went for a trek before having fish and chips for lunch. It was a lovely day.

My favorite place would be the park close to me. They have a pond there with geese, ducks and other birds and they will all come up to you if you have food.

Looks like a great place to visit. For a weekend jaunt or summer vacation, you can’t beat Door County, Wisconsin. There are quirky small towns, artists galleries, vineyards and lighthouses, as well as numerous parks and trails to explore on bike or on foot.
