13 Excellent Writing Podcasts

Thursday Thirteen

This year I’ve embraced podcasts and especially those that discuss writing or self-publishing.

Here are thirteen of my favorite writing podcasts.

1. The Creative Penn – this is one of my absolute favorites and I always learn a lot.

2. Rocking Self-Publishing – another favorite with information-packed episodes.

3. Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing – focus is mainly on fantasy but lots of good information.

4. Social Media for Authors – the latest in social media.

5. The Writing Podcast

6. The Smarter Artist

7. The Sell More Books Show

8. The Author Hangout

9. Online Marketing Made Easy

10. Romance Writer’s Rodeo – this one doesn’t have any recent episodes, but Ivy’s interviews are excellent.

11. Writing Excuses

12. Helping Authors Become Writers

13. Writing No Drama

Do you listen to podcasts? Do you have any favorites, either writing or for other subjects?

  1. Maria Zannini

I wish I could say I liked them because I know many of them are packed with useful information, but most podcasts bore me.

The reason is that the majority of podcasts tend to belabor their points. That and the the spoken word is slower than the reading it to yourself.

If I read it, the point is made and I move on. If it’s important I’ll read it again.

I sometimes click on podcasts if there’s an attached transcript so I can scan the highlights, but otherwise no.

    • Shelley Munro

I like the audio because I can listen when I’m on the move, walking the dog, biking or when I’m on the train or bus. I tend to remember things better if I hear it. Of course, I have to be interested in the subject matter.

  2. Colleen@ LOOSELEAFNOTES

I like poetry open link sites and to commiserate with other poets. They give the best comments! I don’t know any of these. Although, I have self-published a book (now out of print).

    • Shelley Munro

The subject matter is endless when it comes to podcasts. There is something for all interests.

  3. Mia Jo Celeste

I like KelsNotChels, but I’ll check out some of these podcasts. Thanks.

    • Shelley Munro

I haven’t heard of that one, Mia. I’ll check it out.

  4. Alice Audrey

Wow! Thank you! I’m going to listen to these while I’m out exercising.

    • Shelley Munro

I listen while I’m walking the dog, although I’ve been listening to audio books recently.

  5. Heather L

I can’t say I’ve ever gotten into the podcast craze, but I’m glad you found some useful to you. My T13

    • Shelley Munro

For me, it’s a different way of learning and it also gives my eyes a rest!

  6. Mary Kirkland

I’ve never listened to a podcast so this is interesting.

    • Shelley Munro

Mary, there are free podcasts on every subject imaginable. There are probably even some on rats and other pets.

  7. Forgetfulone

What a great list for budding authors! I have always loved writing, but I’ve never written specifically for a public office, other than my blog, but I would like to.

  8. Laane

No, I don’t listen to podcasts. But I do appreciate they come in handy, as the subject is interesting.
