Interview with Cynthia Sax #scifi #cyborgs @CynthiaSax

According to her bio, Cynthia Sax lives in a world filled with magic and romance. Although her heroes may not always say “I love you,” they will do anything for the women they adore. They live passionately. They play hard. They love the same women forever.

That sounds like my kind of hero, so I had to interview Cynthia to learn more!

Hi Cynthia,

1. Today I want to focus on your cyborgs and in particular your Cyborg Sizzle series. You’ve written a lot of cyborg heroes. What is it about a cyborg hero that inspires you so much? Why cyborgs?

I fell in love with cyborg heroes while reading Laurann Dohner’s delicious Cyborg Seduction series and Eve Langlais’ awesome Cyborgs: More Than Machines series. Cyborgs are part man, part machine and the inner conflict between these two parts, between logic and emotion appeals to me. I think we’ve all experienced this. Our brain tells us to do one thing. Our heart tells us to do another. Which do we choose? Cyborgs struggle with this constantly, especially once they fall in love.

2. If a reader visits your Facebook page they soon learn you have a great sense of humor and a sense of fun (plus an awesome hubby!) yet your writing is quite dark. How do you explain that and what attracts you over to the dark side?

I am fascinated with military history (if we don’t learn from history, we tend to repeat it) and I really wanted to tell the story of the cyborgs starting when they rebelled against their manufacturers. The cyborgs were created to fight wars. Any rebellion would happen during wartime and be quite violent. To make this series light in tone wouldn’t be true to the setting and would diminish what today’s warriors are experiencing.

But there IS humor and, of course, happy endings (for main characters and for past couples – everyone else is at risk). Humor is a survival tactic we see employed even during our darkest times. It is one of our great strengths.

3. If I were to visit your writing spot what would I find? Are you a messy writer? An organized one? Or something in between?

I’m a write-with-what-I-have writer. My side table is the ironing board. My screen is a huge-backed CRT monitor I received from an environmentally-friendly buddy who didn’t want to throw it away. My desk is a curbside find and barely fits my huge monitor and keyboard. Both my chair and my laptop were discarded from one of the tech companies my Dear Wonderful Hubby worked for.

I don’t need much to write – a great keyboard (so I can type with my eyes closed if I wish) and a working Word program and I’m happy.

As for messy vs neat – messy. I tend to write for long durations so the space around me is cluttered with stuff I need to do that – water bottles, the cordless phone, snacks, etc.

4. Where is the best place for readers to learn more about your books?

Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.

Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals—kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.

Until he meets Joan.

Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal—survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.

When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

Once he has Rhea in his talons, however, he realizes he never wants to let her go.
