Today I thought I’d visit Egypt. Every time I think of Egypt and the pyramids, I think of one of my favorite movies—The Mummy.
Before we visited Egypt I knew quite a bit about the pyramids. I’d seen pictures of them and watched documentaries about the way they were built. But none of this prepared me for actually seeing them.
Things that surprised me:
- They weren’t alone in the middle of the desert. In reality they butt up against modern civilization and the city.
- The air is quite polluted, hence the fuzzy photos.
- The pyramids were not smooth, (They look smooth in the photos) but they’re like a series of uneven steps. They were once covered in a limestone casing that was stripped away over time. What we see now is the foundation of the pyramid.
- The Sphinx looked very worn and it was smaller than I’d imagined.
In this photo I’m sitting on the steps at the base of one of the pyramids. I have long legs but it was a bit of a climb for me. Hubby labelled this photo – No Rest for the Slave.
Have you visited a place only to find your imagination has led you in the wrong direction?
I’d love to go to Egypt some day, but it won’t be for awhile. I’m still thankful my parents made it out alive. It was intense.
Some of these countries can be quite volatile at times. It’s sad because they’re fun destinations with history, delicious food and friendly people.
I love The Mummy! Egypt (and so many other places) are on my bucket list.
Brendan Fraser is really good in this movie.
Those are the steps? Wow, I would need to bring a step ladder. lol
Wait! I’m sure one of the camel men will bring one for a price. They were quite pushy at the pyramids. We had to be very firm that , no thank you. We did not require help.
Cool pics, Shelley. I think it would be an interesting place to visit, though will probably never get there.
Never say never, Heather. You never know.
Oh wow..I’ve always wanted to go there…
I know some often imply alien technology had something to do with the pyramids being built, but they still had to have slave labor to make it happen whether “out of the world” designed the things or not. I can’t imagine how they did it.
