Reasons I Dislike Winter

Thursday Thirteen

Last week author Jess Dee blogged at Samhain about 15 reasons she hated winter. Since it’s winter here in New Zealand, I thought I’d borrow her timely topic and do a list of Thirteen Things I Dislike About Winter.

1. It’s cold.
2. The cold means I have to dress in layers and I end up looking like a round blob just trying to stay warm.
3. It rains a lot more than usual.
4. I get cabin fever when I can’t go outside.
5. We’ve had more frosts in the last two months than we’ve had in the last five years.
6. My feet get cold.
7. It gets really windy and I can’t cycle some days.
8. The little dog and Mr. Munro leave footprints on the floor.
9. I tend to eat more. ‘Nuff said!
10. It’s dark when I wake in the morning and gets dark by late afternoon.
11. It’s difficult to get the washing dry. (I don’t have a drier)
12. The dog hates getting wet and leaves things to the last minute. I’ve learned to read the signs, but that means I have to go outside and wait. I feel mean making the wee dog stay outside in the rain because she’s old.
13. It’s not ice cream weather.

What do you dislike most about winter?

I love winter, but then again I live in the south so we only have it about two months out of twelve. LOL Happy Thursday!

  2. Brenda ND

I like summer more than winter. If I had my way, winter would appear in December. It would last until January finished and February would start spring. Happy TT!

  3. sandra cox

I’m with you. I moved to the south from the midwest. Fraid I could never go back. brrr

  4. Lori

I felt the exact same way when I lived in Cleveland, OH. I hate snow and ice. Bring on the heat and the sunshine.

  5. Alice Audrey

no ice cream? No wonder you are suffering.

  6. Lucinda

Last week when our A/C was on the fritz, I was wishing for cooler weather. LOL! I like the in-between times—spring and fall.

  7. Kristen

The only thing I really dislike about winter is the huge pile of wet boots, gloves, hats, scarves and coats that grows near the door.

  8. Debra Kayn

Oh, this is tough, because winter is my favorite season. Hm, I suppose I hate the electricity going out all the time. Snow and wind knocks our power out more than it works it seems. Last year we went almost 5 days without power…over Christmas, at that. That gets really old.

But the cold, snow, wetness, dark days..I love.

  9. Christina DeLorenzo

The cold feet is the one that bugs me the most. Heck, with the AC on, I get cold feet in summer. I just can’t sleep with cold feet.

    Great list!

  10. jillconyers

Not a big fan of winter either. Happy Thursday!

    NO DRYER?
Oh Good Gravy, I could not survive without my dryer.
All the towels my kids go through, their clothes….and because of asthma and allergies, it’s been recommended not to hang outside. So I could never do what you do without and can’t imagine it. Wow!
And… any season, any time is a good time for ice cream. I buy a tad more in the summer but even in the winter we have ice cream… with bananas, whipped cream, fudge sauce….and potato chips. YUM

Hope the frosts are done for the season and your toes get warmer!!

  12. Catherine Bybee

It’s so hard to think it’s winter where you are. Here it’s 103 degrees. So, cool sounds good right about now. lol

  13. Adelle Laudan

Aww poor girlie. Come visit me here in Canada during our Winter. LOL

    Happy T13!

  14. Heather

I like snow (in moderation), but hate the cold. I much prefer fall to other seasons. A good thing since our weather for the next week is supposed to be extremely unseasonal and “fall-like.” It’s going to be warmer in Alaska than it will be here! In July!

  15. Maya Doyle

Worst thing? The freezing cold. Snow is okay, sometimes, but the cold is what gets me.

  16. Savannah Chase

All the warm and heavy clothes…people who can’t drive in the snow and drive like maniacs…..the list goes on..lol

  17. Shelley Munro

I think I would move if it started to snow where I live. I don’t mind playing in the snow for an hour or so, but after that it gets old!

  18. Shelley Munro

Michele – we used to have a drier but never used it so we gave it away. I dry all my clothes outside. We’re lucky because we don’t have allergies and live quite near the countryside with no big factories or anything like that.

    “Cool” list ;–)
Actually one of the reasons I live in So Cal at the beach is to avoid winter … for many of the same reasons you’ve listed.
    Hugs and blessings,

  20. Nicholas

I’m with you. I hate winter, which is one reason I’m glad I moved to Florida, where it only lasts about a week.

  21. Babette James

I love winter, but it has it’s annoying moments. lol Dog and husband track snow in. The dog I can forgive, but really, does the snow have to come all the way in the house? Boots can’t stay by the front door on the tile?
    Happy T13 :)

  22. Fedora

Oh come on, Shelley, it’s ALWAYS ice cream weather! Seriously, what I dislike most, driving the kids to and from school in the rain, which is an utter waste of gas, plus they track mud into the cars, which makes the carpets grungy… I know we could walk, but I don’t always enjoy that if it’s too cold and/or we’re also bringing friends to school–I don’t feel as comfortable forcing other people’s kids to endure what I’d happily commit my own family to doing ;) (Am I a wacko or what?)

  23. Shelley Munro

Nope, I don’t agree about ice cream being enjoyable during winter. It’s just not the same.

  24. Janice~

I use to hate winter for all the reasons you mentioned, but I’m heavier now and have perry menopause complete with hot flashes.

So now, I have my hot flashes to keep me warm.

    Happy TT.

    Janice~

  25. AD

    sigh!
    great list!

  26. Susan Helene Gottfried

    You’re right. Cold feet SUCK.

Speaking of winter, did you hear about the explorer who froze to death recently? Wow. What a tragedy — and someone who should have had a much happier ending, too.

  27. Christina Phillips

Haha this list made me laugh because it could easily be my own list!!! I so do not love being cold and wet, and this winter it’s been very cold and very wet!!! (I don’t have a dryer either!)

  28. Shelley Munro

Susan – you mean the Te Papa CEO and his friend who died recently? That was sad since they were experienced trampers.

Christina – just call our lounge a drier!

  29. Barbara Martin

The snow and the cold, especially deep freezes as the common ailments of humans like colds and flus cannot survive in it.
