B is for Beehive

My post today comes to you from the Beehive in Wellington. This is the affectionate name we New Zealanders call our parliament buildings because of its shape.

Beehive

The Beehive is the round building and the one on the right is Parliament House.

Beehive Info:

1. The building was designed by British architect Sir Basil Spence.

2. It’s in Wellington, our capital city.

3. The building was opened by Queen Elizabeth II.

4. It’s ten stories high.

5. You can wander around the grounds at will. There are statues of past prime ministers and beautiful gardens.

6. You can also do a free tour of the interior (after a security check) and sometimes you’ll get to see and chat with John Key, our prime minister. This, according to our guide on the tour I took.

I’m learning lots of different things as I visit the different blogs.

It is kinda cute and is amazing inside. I couldn’t take photos inside. The rose gardens were pretty. :)

A great name for that building. However, the contrast of architecture is really startling. I’m surprised the city didn’t want to maintain some consistency. Still it’s very interesting.

It’s been there for a while and was built before people really worried about this sort of thing. It actually works when you’re looking at them all together.

Great architecture! Nice that a chat with the prime minister is an option! Nice to see a blog from NZ participating. My husband visited there while in high school, performing with a prestigious, touring symphony orchestra. He plays tuba!
Thanks for coming by Life is Good today!

Our Prime Minister seems very approachable :)
I’m glad your husband has good memories of NZ.

I think Beehive is a perfect name for it!

It does look like a beehive.

Your theme for A to Z challenge is excellent, and I would like to come back to read more about your country.

What a fab piece of architecture! It stands out, yet suits the place at the same time. Happy A to Z’ing
