New Zealanders love their boats and fishing. Fishing is a reasonably cheap activity since you don’t need a licence, except if you want to fish for fresh-water fish such as trout.
My husband’s family are all very keen fishermen. Me—not so much. I think the sport is cruel and I always feel very sorry for the fish. Not that my feelings stop hubby’s interest in the hobby. He goes out as often as he can. All of these photos were taken on the Hauraki Gulf, not far from Auckland.
This is a hammerhead shark, and it was released after this photo was taken.
Another shark—a different variety this time—released again after the photo.
Busy fishing. The island in the background is the dormant volcano, Rangitoto. It’s an Auckland landmark.
Hubby with some of his catch.
And my sister-in-law with her catch.
Do you like to fish?
My husband and brother bot like to fish but I’ve never gone. Not much into fishing.
Me neither. Give me a good book instead!
You don’t feel very sorry for the fish when you’re eating them!
Sometimes that’s true, but if I see them with their eyes that puts me off my dinner!
I’m so not a fisher girl (well kinda a duh since I’m a vegetarian) but a tragic fishing outing as an 8 year old ended fishing for me well before I became a vegetarian.
It was my first time fishing and we fished ALL day and no one caught a single thing. Until the last throw out. I caught one! And it was a baby! (probably not but it was small) And I was so upset! He’d gotten all stuck on the hook and it couldn’t be removed and I was just devastated because I’d killed a baby!
Yeah. It ended that trip real quick and never again have I fished or eaten it. lol My poor mama had her hands full with me at that age. lol
That would get to me too. They look better swimming in the water. I eat a mainly vegetarian diet as well.
Nope. But hubby and his father LOVE it. I fished once at a pond on FIL’s property, but made my husband bait the hook for me. I caught something but we put it back.
