Pantyhose are a fairly recent invention. Allen Gant invented the modern form of pantyhose in 1959, and a seamless version was manufactured by Glen Raven Mills in 1965. I wear them on occasion, but I’m not a fan. I find them uncomfortable, and because I’m tall it used to be difficult to get a pair to fit. These days they are made to fit different heights so it’s not such a nightmare. I still dislike wearing them though.
Thirteen Alternative Uses For Pantyhose
1. Use to clean taps.
2. Protect delicate items (such as lingerie and sequined clothes) in the wash.
3. Thread pantyhose through the arms of woolen jumpers when drying on the clothesline.
4. Use to clean ceiling fan blades – wipe the blades with damp pantyhose on a broom.
5. Grow alfalfa in a section of pantyhose about the size of a tennis ball. Mix equal parts of sawdust and alfalfa seeds and put them inside the pantyhose and tie off tightly. Sit it on a saucer on a windowsill, water regularly and trim the sprouts.
6. Clean pet bowls by wiping over them with damp pantyhose.
7. Use them to wash the car. Place pantyhose over the head of a broom and sweep over car.
8. Use them as hanging pots. Pack the bottom of leg with soil, add seeds and hang. This works best with lighter plants.
9. Polish chrome furniture to keep rusty spots at bay.
10. Remove soap scum with damp pantyhose.
11. Use to polish saucepans.
12. Use them to clean the fridge.
13. Use as a scourer for cleaning Teflon frying pans.

Do you like wearing pantyhose? How often do you wear them? Are pantyhose sexy?
I went to a year of middle school where we had to wear pantyhose….then a few years later I worked at a bookstore where pantyhose were mandatory. The day that I quit that job, I went home and threw out all my pantyhose and haven’t worn them since (that was seven years ago!)
Happy TT!
I never, ever wear those. I wear trousers everywhere, or jeans, and so it rarely – if ever – comes up.
Lucky for me, I work in a fairly relaxed atmosphere, so getting truly “dolled up” isn’t necessary.
Still, these are interesting suggestions, but I don’t think I’ll go out to buy any pantyhose to try them. LOL!
Happy TT!
By cleaning taps….what do you mean?
My 13 is notations of a special holiday song…how long will it take you to figure out what song it is? You’ll need to scroll down a bit below my Thursday Thunks to find my 13 –they are posted if you’d like to stop by for a visit today….HERE
Have a great Thursday.
I used to wear pantyhose, but I haven’t in many years. Man, I hate those confining things. LOL Have a great Thursday, Shelley!
I do wear pantyhose under dresses and dress slacks. I like the overall smooth coverage.
One more tip for pantyhose: use it to tie plants to a stake.
Ugh, pantyhose! Those and spanx make me want to cringe! LOL
i always love tts like this! i learn a lot. thanks for the post!
Great list. I can’t remember the last time I wore pantyhose and I can totally relate to bad fits for tall people.
Happy T13!
Thanks for reminding me :)

Those are pretty good list!
I am sharing the movies that we like to watch over and over again
I don’t like pantyhose. I will wear stockings with a garter belt or knee highs if I’m wearing pants but not those restrictive hose. The very fact that all the ones in my size have the words “slimmer look” or “shape help” just mean they will be extremely tight and uncomfortable. Who ever thought I’d want to wear skin tight restrictive wear from my navel down had rocks in their head.
Loved the new book!
Hugs!
I remember my mom making sprouts using a jar with the pantyhose over the top as a strainer! MMMM So good on egg salad in a pita pocket. :)
Anyway…
I haven’t worn pantyhose in a long time. When I left the office, I left the hose too. I kinda miss that smooth, sexy feel sometimes. hehe I have to agree with Amy, thigh highs or stockings work just fine without feeling like your being worked over by a boa constricter!
Great TT!
Hugs

Wow, very cool. Who would think I could do all this with my old pantyhoses. I’ll be trying some of these. Thanks.
I love pantyhose, especially the ones with the lines up the back, I think those are super sexy. Now I know what to do with all mine that have runs in them! Great list. Happy Thursday!
I love that list! I like stuff like that. Heloise, Flylady, all that sort of thing.
I actually like pantyhose; I think they make legs look nice. I prefer garter belt and stockings, though; but that’s me. I just find the panty part of the hose uncomfortable.
I can’t stand them. When I worked at the theatre and our uniform included a skirt for the women, I wore tights instead, because they wouldn’t run after one use.
I think the best way to save the planet is to boycott pantyhose! Ick.
Great list, LOL. I honestly can’t remember the last time I wore panty hose, probably a wedding.
I don’t like wearing panty hose. I’m a casual girl and if I can go bare legged, or with jeans I will.
These uses are interesting and funny none the less.
Hootin Annie – they can be used to clean the taps all over and they’re also excellent to clean away the dirt that gathers at the base of the tap.
Maria – yes, my mother used pantyhose to tie her tomatoes.
Hi Shelly,
I used to wear panty hose, but hated it.
Although I did wear them recently, well last year, with a fancy dress costume as it was in winter and my legs would have froze.
They were the shimmery smooth ones, and have a really nice look to them. :)
I forgot to mention your uses for panty hose. I’m going to try some of those. lol…I think it’s remarkable, if it works. :)
Suzanne – My sister put me on to the TV show Lush House, featuring Shannon Lush. She uses natural things such as baking soda and white vinegar to clean and always uses pantyhose. These hints are from one of her books.
Hubby even watched her show last night and was fascinated.
Creative post. Pantyhose are uncomfortable, but I have no choice and must wear them at certain times, like for air conditioned spots where I’d be cold if I went bare legged. I LOVE wearing skirts and dresses, so in the winter, I often wear tights (colored or textured) and those come in more sizes than the standard pantyhose. I ADORE wearing colored and different hose on my legs.
I also have sizing issues. I’m petite, but long-legged so I need them long enough to stretch over my legs, but not too long to sag later! As for uses, oh my, we have always used old pantyhose for stuffing in pillows or packages, not to mention costumes over the face (We are not real bank robbers!). Terrific post.
I’m going to try some of these, like the ceiling fan thing.
Ugh, pantyhose is a 4-letter word to me. LOL
pantyhose are also a dandy way to keep birds off your tomatoes. put the hose over the tiny tomato and allow it to grow. stops the birds from getting at them because they don’t like the feel/taste.
I hate pantyhose! They were a requirement when I worked outsitd of the home. The minute I would walk through the door, I would start to get changed. I think that men should have to wear them for one day, and I would bet that they would be banned!! :)
I don’t wear pantyhose any more than I have to. I don’t think they are in the least bit sexy.
Very handy list.
Flash 55 – Favors
I used to wear panty hose and thought they were sexy and comfortable. But I don’t really like them anymore.
I don’t mind putting on a garter and stockings for sexy dress up, but I totally don’t like pantyhose! LOL!
*hugs*
