13 Cinderella Romances

Thursday Thirteen

The fairy tale of Cinderella is one of my favorites, and over the years, many authors have taken the tale and given it their own twist. It’s a romantic tale with a handsome prince, a beautiful heroine, a villain and the traditional happy ending.

Beautiful girl dressed as Cinderella is sitting on the steps

Here are Thirteen Cinderella romances for you to try.

Artist Trading Cards: Tiny Masterpieces

Charlotte Dixon, the heroine of One Night of Misbehavior is interested in design, and before her grandmother became sick, Charlotte was studying to become a graphic designer. Charlotte and her grandmother try all sorts of crafts and Charlotte enjoys making artist trading cards.

So what is an artist trading card?

They’re original and small works of art on cardstock—the size of a playing card. The idea is to collect and trade with other artists. Here is a link to my Artist Trading Card board at Pinterest to give you an idea of the scope of the cards. http://pinterest.com/shelleymunro/artist-trading-cards/

Follow Shelley Munro: Author’s board Research: Artist Trading Cards on Pinterest.

At first Charlotte uses the ATCs as a way to express herself and play with different techniques, but when Ash Marlborough, the hero in One Night of Behavior offers Charlotte a job, she finds new applications for her hobby. She uses the idea as a part of an ad campaign for a motorcycle shop.

These days the trading cards are used by artists, people doing crafts and more recently, authors have printed ATCs to use for promotional purposes. http://romancetradingcards.com/

One Night of Misbehavior

My Sexy Saturday

The theme this week is One Sexy Night. Have you ever heard of a moment in time, day or night, that changes everything? That one sexy night can right all life’s wrongs, make the old new again and help our characters find the love of their lives.  For this week’s theme, we are making that special moment happen during the night time. One sexy night that will have our characters wanting a lifetime of special moments with that extraordinary someone. It is during that time when sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly, we realize the life we knew before that moment no longer exists. We can no longer look at things the same way as before.

My featured book this week is One Night of Misbehavior, a contemporary retelling of Cinderella, set in New Zealand. This snippet takes place the night after the ball. Charlotte met a mystery man and spent a very enjoyable night with him…

Charlotte plopped on the end of Gran’s bed and nodded cautiously. The pain was muted now, the tablets working their magic. “They seemed to enjoy the ball. Everyone danced all night. The band was excellent.”

Gran’s faded blue eyes twinkled behind the lenses of her glasses. “Did they recognize you?”

“They didn’t glance at me twice.”

“I told you so.” Her grandmother’s gaze zeroed in on her neck.

Charlotte recalled the addictive kisses Zorro had trailed down her throat, the sensual bite and suck, and groaned inwardly. Kisses plus suction equaled one thing. Hickeys.

“Did you meet someone special?”

“No,” Charlotte said quickly. Too quickly.

“I see.”

Charlotte was glad someone saw because she didn’t understand her actions of the previous night. Yes, she’d had too much Champagne, but she’d known what she was doing. No one had forced her to kiss Zorro or to run her hands down his naked chest. Heck, no one had forced her to scream with the pleasure of her orgasm either. It was as if an alien had taken possession of her—one who enjoyed the heck out of sex.

O is for One Night of Misbehavior

O

Titles are hard things to pin down—at least I find them difficult, and I can ponder and panic about finding the perfect title for a book for weeks. Titles also don’t begin with an O, but bear with me.

Cinderella is my favorite fairy tale. I guess it’s the romantic in me, but I like the idea of a prince searching the kingdom for his special woman and finding her in the most unlikely place. When I wrote the book that became my first self-published title, I decided to take the tale of Cinderella and give it my own special New Zealand spin.

And that’s when my title problem rose up like a many-headed snake. I thought and wrote lists, I pestered my husband for ideas then promptly said, “no, no, no,” because none of them were right. For a long time I called my story One Night With Zorro, which I really liked, but I worried about the Zorro part of the title and copyright.

Then, one day it hit me—the perfect title.

One Night of Misbehavior.

Here’s the blurb for One Night of Misbehavior, my Cinderella inspired romance, which is set in New Zealand.

What is your favorite fairy tale? And authors out there, do you have trouble with titles?

A is for Auckland

I’m an A – Z virgin, and I’m looking forward to tackling this challenge. Since I live in New Zealand, I thought this would make a great theme for my posts. I intend to introduce you to my home country and also to some of my romance novels, which are set in my home country.

A is for Auckland

Mt Eden, Auckland

This is the view of the central business district of Auckland and the Sky Tower, taken from the top of Mt. Eden, a dormant volcano. In the foreground you can see the crater of the volcano.

Auckland Harbor Bridge

This is the Auckland Harbor Bridge that spans the harbor.

Sky Tower

Sky Tower can be seen from all over Auckland. It’s the largest tower in the Southern Hemisphere.

Six Things About Auckland

1. Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, although it’s not the capital. The population is spread out over a big area.

2. The city of Auckland is built on and around a field of dormant volcanoes.

3. It’s also known as the City of Sails since there are so many boats on the harbor and has excellent fishing.

4. Auckland is the gateway to the rest of New Zealand. Both cruise ships and planes arrive in Auckland.

5. No matter where you live in Auckland, a beach isn’t far away.

6. The Sky Tower in Auckland is the tallest in the Southern hemisphere.

Auckland is my home, and I’ve written several romances, which are set here. The perfect way to armchair travel to Auckland.

There’s The Bottom Line, Past Regrets, Summer in the City of Sails, Make That Man Mine and One Night of Misbehavior.
